He had to wonder why she wasn't more popular in the clan. Sure, her personality take a bit of getting used to but it wasn't that bad. It wasn't like she was anti-social, overly bossy or diseased. Oh well. It was their loss if they chose not to tolerate the tawny she-cat. She had good humor when one took the time to learn how to take it. Setting himself walking along slightly behind Windclaw on her left side, Cloudclaw focused on not tripping. It seemed at least for now he'd be alright. When she asked what friends talk about, Cloudclaw couldn't stop himself from laughing aloud. "I actually don't really know," Cloudclaw admitted finally, his tail sweeping from left to right as he strode along just behind the tawny she-cat. "I guess...about the things they like or have in common? For us that's not much..."PICKING up his pace enough to bound just ahead of Windclaw. Zig-zagging a bit as he ran, he kept his steps light, tips of his toes barely touching the ground before he moved again. He didn't necessarily move quickly, just lightly. Normally he wasn't capable of this kind of movement on the ground, no where close. Today though he felt a bit lighter. Not completely weightless but he felt better, more serene, less...like he was just taking up space and wasting air. He actually smiled as he followed the path through the woodland. It was weird. Normally his only contentment was in the treetops but since that wasn't an option, he found contentment even on the ground. Windclaw must have been StarClan sent. JUST as Cloudclaw was about to turn and say something to Windclaw, a hole magically opened up in front of the silver tom. His paw caught the edge of it and as soon as his weight came down, the edge of the hole gave in. With a rather undignified yelp, the tom stumbled and jerked his paw out of the hole before nearly tumbling onto his side. Cloudclaw toppled into the ferns with another yelp, vanishing in a tumble of silver and rustle of ferns. Tagged;; Windclaw <3 Word Count;; 369 Background Song;; weird techno music..... "Well I can see this friendship lasting." Windclaw purred, with a chuckle her eyes flicking in his direction. Looking back ahead she took a moment to jump onto a large root, protruding from the ground. Balancing on it she turned her head up towards the canopy. "It seems so much easier to find things we don't have in common." Jumping back down to the ground she continued to walk beside him, her mind trying to come up with something that she liked that he might like too. Which was a lot harder then she thought it would be.
Turning to look at him she was a bit surprised to see him so lively on the ground. He didn't move like he did in the trees, but he seemed more lively on the ground then she had ever seen him. Which gave her hope that things might just work out in whatever this was that they'd managed to build between them, this awkward friendship.
None the less she sped up just a bit to keep close to him, thinking that maybe she could worry about all of this later. If they had things in common she was sure whatever they were would pop out sooner or later the longer they spent together. If they even decided to talk again after today. After all the day wasn't done and she was well aware of how things could go wrong. As a testament to her skill, even half blind and over thinking she managed to see the hole just as his paw prepared to dive into it.
Her mouth opened to warn him, since he clearly hadn't seen it. But she only managed a slightly roar that was cut off as she flinched. Stopping in her tracks she could do nothing but watch as one moment he was in front of her, and the next he was a blur of silver disappearing through the greenery. Her first reaction was worry, which surprised her. But she didn't think about it as she jumped over to where he was, skidding to a stop next to him. "Are you alright?" She said, ducking her head to nudge him as she gave the fur by his ear a quick lick. She couldn't help but chuckle just a bit. "You have to watch where your going more closely." Smiling she moved around him her eyes flicking over him to make sure he hadn't seriously injured himself before sitting down by hid his head.

His legs curled in toward his belly and an 'oomph' escaped him as the wind was driven from his lungs. Blinking in surprise as the world righted itself around him, the silver leopard was about to roll over and go back to Windclaw when he spotted a streak of vivid tawny signalling the she-cat's arrival followed by a question of his health. Opening his maw to answer, Cloudclaw was cut off when she licked his ear and nudged him, her blue eyes sweeping his frame most likely in search of injuries. For some reason the worry in her eyes was touching but and at the same time amusing. He'd taken harder hits as an apprentice when training with Longwhisker when his mentor had actually been in a good mood. The fact that she cared though, that was nice and he couldn't help but smile. "I'M fine," he assured her, rolling onto his side and stretching each limb as an example of his wellbeing. "It happens all the time, can't walk ten feet without tripping over myself. My mentor used to say I was cursed but then I would go and make him mad by climbing trees higher than he would ever dare. I think he always hoped I'd fall and break my neck." Cloudclaw spoke casually, for once not feeling worthless when he thought of Longwhisker's rages and dislike of him. He'd never quite figured out why his mentor had hated him though he figured it was his inability to be a fast runner or an overly impressive fighter. He was alright in a fight but not outstanding. It didn't seem to matter anymore though since the tom had died some moons ago in a border fight. Stretching and standing, Cloudclaw glanced back at himself. HE was a mess. DIRT and mud streaked his silver pelt and his fur was shoved in all sorts of directions. It stuck up at odd angles and a few burrs were clinging greedily to the dense fur. Normally in the presence of a clanmate in such a state, he'd be embarrassed and turn into a stuttering mess. Today though, he felt himself flush hotly with embarrassment but managed to laugh at his own silly messy appearance. Reaching over his shoulder he gave his pelt a few licks to try and straighten out the mess that he called a pelt. It didn't help much. GIVING himself a firm shake like a dog shaking water off his pelt, Cloudclaw glanced back again. No difference except for a few bits of leaf litter coming off. Oh well. "Sorry about that," he said, glancing at Windclaw and blushing under his fur again. "Really it happens all the time."TWITCHING his ears, Cloudclaw listened carefully. The gurgle of a stream drew his attention, sending the silver leopard padding toward it through a screen of ferns and pushing back some stubborn bushes. The stream wasn't deep but it's current was quick and the water flowed clear enough for him to see the smooth stones at the bottom. Most leopards avoided swimming since their dense pelts made it uncomfortable and they took forever to dry but Cloudclaw waded right in. Ignoring the bite of the mountain spring cold waters, he used the water to wash the mud and dirt off his pelt and smooth his fur back into place. Standing in the current, he looked around to see if Windclaw had followed or given him up as a lost cause. Tagged;; Windclaw <3 Word Count;; 614 Background Song;; NA Notes;; :3 [/scrolly] | |

Being worried over a little tumble like that seemed both irrational and perfectly logical all at the same time. After all, for a moment he’d disappeared from her line of sight as though sucked into the ground itself, despite her experience telling her that if anything was hurt in a fall like that it would probably be a cat’s pride. Still, when he stood up she couldn’t help but feel a tinge of relief.
“We can’t all be good at everything.” She said, her eyes taking him in, and trying honestly not to laugh at his appearance. Unfortunately her face said it all, lit up as it was, like she’d just caught someone with their paw stuck in a mouse’s den.
Sitting on her haunches she grinned. “You look like you’ve just been through a spar in the mud.” She purred in amusement, her tail flicking lazily back and forth beside her. Seeing him now she was suddenly thankful for her shorter tawny coat, which seemed so much easier to clean then his. She could just picture the knots that no doubt appeared if he didn’t manage it well. “No need to apologize, I’ve seen worse. Believe me.” And she had, as a kit some of the rogues and loners out in the unclaimed lands looked like they didn’t bother with their appearance half the time. They were all mottled fur, knots, and dry mud and blood. Not exactly the most appealing of sights, nor the most comforting. Especially to a young kit.
Still seated she watched as he walked off, wondering where he was going. And hoping that he didn't decide to climb up a tree again. As brave as she believed she was, she didn't think she was ready to go back up in that world just yet.
Just to be sure though she got to her feet and padded along behind him. Unable to stop herself from grinning at the sight her new vantage point offered of his dirtied pelt. Perking her ears forward she heard the sound of the water as the came up on it, and with a breath she could smell the unmistakable scent of water and wet soil. Which had her wondering what exactly he was planning on doing.
Slowing her steps she stayed in the treeline and watched him wade into the water. An odd thing for a leopard to do, but then again she already considered him a rather odd leopard. Stepping out as he looked up, she edged up to the edge of the water and chuckled. "I wish you could see yourself right now. It's a laugh." She said, her nose crinkling as she fought the urge to laugh. And he did look rather silly with his fur all wet...some of it fluttering around his body with the flow of the current.
Looking down at her own paws, which rested just at the edge of the water, where she could feel some of it lapping against her fur she smiled again. And when she looked up that wild spark flashed once more in those startling blue eyes, dancing like fire for just a moment before with a swipe of her paw she sent a small wave of water in his direction. The air filling with her laughter as she dropped into a crouch, prepared for retaliation and looking for all the world like an overgrown kit.

SPOTTING Windclaw as she approached, Cloudclaw threw her a slightly silly grin, knowing he must look absolutely silly. Most fully grown leopards don't just jump into water, especially snow leopards. The thick pelts take forever to dry thanks to the double coat that traps water close to the skin. The thing was, since he'd saved a little blind she-caracal, he'd found his avasion of water was next to nothing. It was only getting wet after all, water couldn't hurt him if he used his head. If he could handle a fast-flowing mountain stream in the rapids, he could handle a little stream that was only about as deep as the middle of his side. Plus it seemed pretty amusing for Windclaw and strangely he didn't mind making her laugh. She seemed like the kind of cat that hadn't gotten to enjoy a genuine laugh in a while so it was okay for her, not so much for everyone else still.
JUST as he opened his maw to say something to his tawny clanmate, a wave of water cut him off. It slapped his chest and rose up to hit his nose making him snort and splutter. For a moment he stood, slightly dumbstruck, regarding Windclaw with mild surprise and then laughing. Her blue eyes were lit up brighter than the sky on a clear summer day. Crouched on the stream's bank, tail waving behind her and tensed up for his retaliation, she looked like an overgrown kit. Sunlight filtered through the trees overhead and dappled her coat with sunlight rather than blackness, almost making her glow. She really was a beautiful cat, in more ways than one.
"HMM you look a little messy yourself," Cloudclaw taunted, pale yellow orbs glinting as sunlight moved over them, an amused purr underlining his tone.
BOUNDING forward he reared up onto his hind paws as though he was going to bring his paws back down and splash her. Instead however, he lunged. Claws sheathed, Cloudclaw managed to grab Windclaw. Heaving backwards, the snow leopard attempted to pull her into the water. Around them, the world seemed to stop. It was the strangest sensation, playing in the water like curious kits while Wrenstar was probably out there somewhere organizing hunts and border patrols. Oddly enough though, it didn't feel important. He didn't feel rushed to get back to camp or the necessity to go hunt for the clan. The freshkill pile had been well stocked when he left and surely two warriors wouldn't make that big of a difference? So they were relaxing a little bit, let Wrenstar and the others be high strung for a little while. Cloudclaw had spent moons and moons being like that.

With her chin close to the ground and her tail swishing in the air above her she could take in the smell of the shallow river. Mud and wet earth filled her senses. As her eyes took him in, watching as the water successfully soaked what parts of his body had managed to remain dry. Her laughter seemed to ring like bells around them, as he sputtered and coughed, water having hit his face. The action itself had come from impulse, stemming from that part of herself that most of her ideas seemed to come from. That wild, untameable part of herself that was now ignited to a slow simmer.
She expected to be splashed back. Her body was ready to accept the torrent of water that might come from his paws. Leopards were not as loving of water as the tigers were. But even she could appreciate what it would feel like; the cold shock of water hitting warm slightly heated fur. She welcomed that feeling. Though technically it didn't arrive quite as she had imagined it.
There was just a hint of confusion at his statement, her ears tilted forward and her head turned just the slightest bit to the side wondering what he could mean. Then he moved and her muscles tensed in response, leaping up as though to crash down and cause a wave in the swiftly flowing stream. Only, instead she felt those paws land on her, claws gripping her. It stung unexpectedly and her eyes widened in surprise as soon as she felt the momentum as he fell backwards, pulling her with him. Realization struck as her legs left the firm slightly wet ground and together they tumbled into the water.
In one instant she was soaked, the water going easily through her thinner coat and hitting her skin. It was cold, as most forest water was. Cooled by the shaded treetops that hid it from most of the sun's rays.
There was a brief moment where her legs didn't quite understand how she'd moved from ground to water so quickly, in which she kicked out to get her bearings before finally making contract with the floor of the stream. Getting to her feet she could feel the thrill still beating like a drum inside of her, adrenaline. Calming her moving limbs she shook her head and sputtered, coughing to expel the water that had splashed up her nose.
And then she started giggling, or rather giggling and sneezing. Turning her head she looked at him with blue eyes that shown in a way that she doubted even her sister had ever seen. Lifting a paw she swiped more water in his direction, "Now look what you've done. My fur's all soaked." She said, unable to stop laughing. "We're both going to smell like drowned rats all day."

AS Windclaw was successfully pulled into the stream's current, a moment of panic overcame Cloudclaw as he too was pulled down. Due to her flailing he had a moment where he had to scramble to find the stream floor. It was nothing harmful, at least under normal circumstances, but Cloudclaw had only just recently begun to accept water as part of his life. He'd nearly drowned and his brother had drowned, so it was understandable that he wasn't fond of water. When Windclaw came down over him and he was submerged, for a second his heart stopped with fear. Hauling himself skyward, he sucked in a deep lung full of air, finding stable purchase on the stream floor. Claws digging in a bit, Cloudclaw shook himself. It didn't do much good since he was surrounded by water and it made his fur stick out in odd directions.
HIS moment of panic was cut off when Windclaw managed to right herself and send a wave of water at him. Cloudclaw let it wash over him, glad it didn't hit his face this time or make him topple over. He doubted she'd be able to be that strong and knock him down but he was glad for that particular weakness. He had forgotten in his good mood that being submerged was...less than pleasant. Shaking his head and fixing a smile on his face, Cloudclaw sent a grin at Windclaw, unwilling to spoil her fun. He could see the playful light in her eyes that made them shine like sapphires.
"YOU know that just means we'll be stuck together all day, no one else will want to get close," Cloudclaw teased, once-fluffy silver and black tail waving lazily from side to side.
THE stream wasn't a massive one so the pair of leopards were standing only about three or four feet apart so, Cloudclaw got an idea. He had to keep himself in a playful frame of mind and try to forget the panic of being underwater. Lunging forward, Cloudclaw swiped water toward his thin-furred clanmate. Splashes accompanied Cloudclaw's steps as he danced out of range while his own wave of water rushed at Windclaw. Springing lightly onto a flat rock that rose just about the stream's current, Cloudclaw dropped into a crouch facing the tawny she-leopard. Tail lashing from side to side, he watched her carefully, certain retaliation was on its way.

Being in the water was strange. This was not her first time standing in water, but it always felt much to different for her to ever get used to. The water flowed around her, moving against her skin as though she had no fur, cleaning her. Her weight even though most of her upper have wasn't exactly in the water felt different, lighter, as the water supported her weight. Even when it wasn't deep, even when it's current wasn't strong it still carried whatever flowed into it as though whatever it carried weighed less to nothing.
Beneath her paws the footing was unstable. Little pebbles shifted with each step...not at all like the firm ground she'd been yanked from.
And yet it was refreshing. She hadn't realized how hot it was until she'd felt the water on her skin. And keeping her eyes on him as he found his own footing, she brought her head down and took a few quick gulps of the cold liquid. Relishing the sensation as it chilled it's way down her throat. Something in her belly seemed to twinge as she looked at him, some other feeling she didn't quite understand, and so ignored. He seemed fine, there was nothing for her to feel weird about. Pushing the worry back she lifted her head. "Only you for company?" She teased, crinkling her nose up as though already smelling the scent they'd no likely give off, a grin filling her face. "This is going to be a long day."
Keeping her eye on him she managed only to turn her head as the wave of water materialized before her. Letting it hit her shoulder she felt the water crash over her head and upper back, ringlets of water threatening to leak into her eyes, forcing her to close them.
By the time she shook her head and opened them to search for him he'd perched himself on a rock, waiting for her next move. Grinning rather lopsidedly she felt her claws curl over the pebbles strewn out beneath her, her mind flicking over what her options were. After a moment though, her ears perked and her eyes danced. "You're in for it now." she purred, chuckling.
Moving as quickly as she could in the water she did a turn, flicking her tail around as she pulled it up and out of the current. The momentum sending a whip of cool water in his direction.
