[atrb=background,http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i248/Rapta/Animal/rapidfire2-5.jpg] [scrolly:h(222),w(370),sy] He refused to let himself storm into camp in the mood he was currently in. He'd come into this storm to run and be free, to let his worries tumble off of him in the rumble of thunder and the sting of rain. Instead he'd found himself faced by a shivering 'rabbit' who weighed about as much as a mouse soaking wet. He could feel the shadow from earlier perched on his shoulder, moving with him through the soaked grass. His mind felt dark and clouded her words circling like claws ready to pounce. He supposed on some level he accepted the fact that he might have deserved it. He'd pushed and pushed until something had tumbled and now he was left to mull over the result. "So what if yet another clan member hates me? I've survived, and it's never bothered me before." He muttered under his breath, the low rumble of his voice caught and deafened by a far off boom of thunder. And yet it seemed as though the little rabbit had not finished with her surprises. Stopping his stride he watched in mild amazement as she skidded to a haphazard stop before him. Surprisingly she managed to keep on her feet as her paws skidded over wet earth. What could she possibly want now? He waited patiently for her to catch her breath taking the moment of silence as a chance to study her. How was it that this fragile little thing could make his mind buzz and whir so annoyingly. Normally he would have stood in smug satisfaction as a clan mate expressed their apologies. This time he didn't feel that way. Her words sparked feelings again, sadness and hurt for one. The rest were a jumble so tangled he couldn't make them out if he tried. He wanted to say something. He felt like he should say something. But for once no words came to mind. For once Rapidfire was as silent as the dead and the state did not fit him well. His eyes were as expressive as they'd been before the fire dimmed from them. It took him a moment to speak and he finally managed when her muzzle brushed his face. The soft touch was surprised. Yet another alien thing to happen to him on this night. "No worries rabbit." He purred, eyes flaring to life again. But before he could say anything else she was off. She wasn't remarkably fast but she was still a cheetah and seeming eager enough to want to get away that she moved considerably fast. What she didn't know was that she'd left behind a cat that was equal parts confused and curious. For a moment back there he'd contemplated pretending this night had never happened, that he'd never met Dawnflower or come out into the stormy night. But now the curiosity was biting and he found himself wanting to know more about his rabbit. His rabbit. Well now Rapidfire what have you gotten into. Is curiosity really worth this much? Looking off into the stormy darkness in the direction she'd run off. He sat back on his haunches and let the rain soak into him. This night had become something interesting. In a short span of time, shorter then the amount of time a cheetah could run, he'd felt more then he'd felt in ages and part of him was disgruntled at that fact. The other part was just glad no one had been out here to see it. Closing his eyes he breathed in the smell of rain and wet earth. Now what was he to do? ———————————— count: 626 tagg: Dawnflower notes: This post feels icky. music: none |
