AMONG the cats in LionClan, it was a well known fact that Willowleaf's rages were generally a rare occurance. It was also well known that, as soon as someone apologized, they were forgive and she instantly felt bad. As soon as Dragonstar's ears drooped and he began moving around her to leave, Willowleaf's muscles uncoiled and she looked at her paws, thoroughly ashamed of herself. Falconeye would still be shaking his head and Sunstreak would probably join him if they saw her behavior. Glancing skyward at StarClan's supposed heavenly home, she knew they were. Her tail drooped and her ears laid flat. She felt her stomach rolling, like she was going to be sick. Confrontations did that to her, being angry did that to her. She never felt good, that was when she'd learned being angry at others for insulting her never fixed things. It only ever made her feel worse. It just...didn't always stop the emotions from getting away from her.
SHE really was a terrible person.
SIGHING, she turned around and looked at Dragonstar's retreating form. "Dragonstar. I'm sorry. I'm tired and...I guess I haven't learned how to take an insult gracefully...you just did to me what I did to you and I guess I can't take it as well...I'm sorry."
LOOKING at her paws, the lioness stiffend her resolve and turned toward where he'd said LionClan was. Looking into the unknown forest, she braced herself and began to move toward the trees, away from the TigerClan leader and their unusual, unhappy, confusing meeting. She almost hoped she'd see him again but she knew she'd never have the inner strength to face the gatherings again. What if they still made fun of her? Sure, she was a proven warrior of LionClan but...it still hurt to know there weren't any friends there. She didn't know her own clan very well and, to be honest, she wasn't sure she wanted to know the other clans. Looking at her feet as she walked, she decided things would just have to stay as they were. She'd act like she'd never heard of or seen Dragonstar. All of his secrets would be safe with her.
AT the edge of the clearing, Willowleaf stopped and looked at the trees. Silent guardians, silent observers. A breeze rustled through them and a bird in the distance chirped. When they walked away, no one would know they had met. Another venture into the water and the clan would be none the wiser. Dragonstar would be happy to forget her and she would never breathe a word of their meeting to anyone as long as she lived. It made her sad, to think there would be nothing to remember their meeting, because it had changed things. Whether they believed it or not, it had. He challenged her when everyone ignored her and she did the same when everyone feared him. They would remember those things, long after his stripes faded with age and her blue eyes turned blind.

He fought to keep the emotions away first, bringing back the emotionless face, the empty guarded eyes. He nearly managed until she got to the last few words and it cracked and crumbled away. Instead, he sighed, glancing back and shaking his head.
I don't handle it well. I just manage to hide my reaction, and that took seasons to master.
He murmured softly as she walked the way he pointed. She paused, looking up and he watched a moment more, thinking to himself. It would be risky, what he was tempted to propose, especially considering he was a leader. But, at the same time, it was nice to have someone to talk to; someone who understood more than most. And he'd never been afraid to break the warrior code, as long as it wouldn't actually hurt his clan.
I wander the outer borders of Tigerclan that aren't shared every morning. If you ever... want to talk again, or something, slip out of boundaries, go to the trees there and leave a scratch mark. I'll wait the next day. No one ever really goes there, anyway.
He murmured softly, knowing even as he spoke the words it was a bad idea. But at least this way she knew he forgave her for her reaction, that he didn't blame her. That would be enough, even if no scratch marks ever appeared on the trees and he never saw her again.

"I wander the outer borders of Tigerclan that aren't shared every morning. If you ever... want to talk again, or something, slip out of boundaries, go to the trees there and leave a scratch mark. I'll wait the next day. No one ever really goes there, anyway."
THE words brought Willowleaf to a stop with one paw raised to take a step. It was dangerous, meeting a clan leader outside of the territory or a gathering. Such a thing could get them into more trouble than breaking any rule in the warrior code. The danger of it rushed through Willowleaf, her heart pumping hard and thudding in her ears. It was a dangerous, dangerous invitation. Willowleaf knew it was something she should decline right now and snub the thought. She should forget it, forget he ever said it. It was crazy. It was dangerous. It was against StarClan's laws. Had she been human, Willowleaf would have bit her lip in indecision. Without looking at the tiger, Willowleaf spoke quite softly, as if someone was listening that had ears to turn her in.
"I should tell you no," Willowleaf said softly. "But...loneliness is a disease with only one cure."
WITHOUT saying anymore, the white lioness began moving through the undergrowth toward the LionClan border. For some reason, the secrets she carried should have weighed her down with their importance and wrongness but for some reason, the promise of a familiar soul put a spring in her step. It put energy into her, replacing the exhaustion of energy enough to get her back to camp. She now knew someone...knew someone that would be like her. It was nice...nice in a way she'd never realized. A foreign contentness settled over Willowleaf as she moved through the undergrowth. Gradually her strides lengthened as until she was running, bounding, leaping toward the LionClan's border.
