I AM A VOICE, YET WAITING TO BE HEARD
NAME... Mikatari [meeka - tar ee]
AGE... Six moons
GENDER... Male
CLAN... Loner
POSITION...the cute one!
SPECIES... Caracal
APPEARANCE...On the beefier side of average for his age, built with thick muscles and a broad build that suggests he'll be large when he is fully grown and completely filled out, Mika is slightly disproportionate for the time being. Due to his age, his body is a little bit too long for his still-growing tail to catch up to properly. As a result, he looks a little funny but will surly grow into his body properly the closer he gets to maturity.
Mikatari's narrow, triangular face is ridged with high cheek bones and a thin, pointed chin. His perfectly black nose is the very place on his face where all color begins to change and blend. From his cheekbones and nose down, Mika's face is pure white and travels down his throat and chest, covering his entire underbelly where there still remains a small handful of fading spots from his kithood. Above his nose and cheek line, he is a handsome mixture of copper, browns, and blacks. Long, bent black hairs sprout from atop his pointed ears as is typical of his species, making him appear to stand a tad taller than he really does. Thick limbs and a strong back mean he runs quickly even for such a small creature and he often loses himself in running, finding it a great time to think when he ever ventures away from his sister and brother.
His eyes are a dark brown, nearly the same black as his pupils. They seem deep and dark, almost scary from time to time, though Mikatari is anything but. Sometimes he seems mad, just from the dark expression his eyes radiate and it tends to put others off if they don't know how to truly read his face.
PERSONALITY...While he, like everyone else, has his darker and more unpleasant days, Mikatari is a loving young male that prefers to love and be involved from a distance. A bit gun-shy, Mika hates being the center of attention for any reason and will try his hardest to duck out of the spotlight and crouch behind his siblings, the only tie to normality and affection he has. Mika is not quick to trust anyone who doesn't look like himself or his siblings, but trusts with his entire heart when he does decide to let go of his suspicions and let you in.
However, he does have his moody and rebellious days where he will snap and be cranky toward the closest target. This is more often than not his siblings and he's been known to be a little overly grouchy toward them, something that is a much more physical effect than anything else, seeing as he cannot verbally attack either of them due to his disability. But Mika is a very expressive young male, and it doesn't take more than a moment and a single wrong touch, action, or word to have him show you exactly how unhappy he is. When moody, Mikatari often runs, feeling like somehow it will help him to escape his problems and be free. Free of what, he's never really figured out; free of his disability, free of the betrayed feelings left by his parents, or perhaps free of the burden he feels he puts on his siblings. Whatever it is he thinks he's running from, Mika will literally run and run until his muscles give out and he can't go any further. At his point, he will wait and recuperate before heading back to his siblings and showing that he's sorry. His sister and brother mean the world to him, and even being cranky and moody couldn't change that.
Because he isn't missing a sense but instead the ability to talk, Mika is the only one of the cubs that doesn't have overly-developed senses that are greatly exaggerated to make up for the lack of a sense. His sister's hearing and smell are much better than his, as is his brother's sense of smell and the ability to feel vibrations. When it comes to the five senses, Mikatari is really quite average for a caracal. As such, when the time comes to it he relies more closely on his siblings than any other time which is, quite frankly, quite a bit to begin with. He is more like his sister in the fact that he's independent but prone to clinging, in the fact that he is slow to trust and not as quick to laugh and joke as his brother. Mika does look up to Zyn for his playful spirit and complete inability to fail at a prank, though he cannot find it in himself to join his deaf brother in his play very often.
Mikatari is often mistaken for being mean, angry, or scary because of his eyes and the message they mistakenly portray. However, his siblings can feel his emotions from a mile off due to both his expressive nature and the fact they'd been raised together from birth and understood one another much better than anyone else ever could. When he learned that his voice was absent, it broke Mika's heart. He lost his parents because of it, he lost much of his pride and confidence, but the one thing his muteness never took away from him was his siblings. He accepts and loves them both for who they are, and they him; but he often wishes he could more easily communicate with the rest of the world, desperate for attention. Of course, he doesn't show that. He may be the more sensitive of the male cubs, but he needs to protect himself somehow; being strong for his sister and brother means acting like all he needs in the world is the two of them. And the older the trio gets, the more he sees that's not just an act, but very true.
HISTORY...Born as blind as any other newborn, Mika loved experiencing the world through touch and sound. As a blinded kit, he was actually quite adventurous and really loved to wander as far as his wobbly paws would take him before he'd collapse and be carried back to his mother and siblings. He was sure to be one of the most adventurous caracals there was. He heard the sounds his siblings and parents made and never really noticed that he couldn't make them himself. He tried and tried, but Mika was absolutely silent at all times.
Not realizing what this meant, he wondered why his mother shunned him so. It quickly stole the spirit from him, and when he could finally open his eyes and see the world, it was a short-lived rekindling. He was again the spontaneous, rambunctious cub he'd been before. However, the obvious distaste on his mother's face, the knowledge that both of his siblings had something missing...it eventually set in what was different about him, and that he couldn't make sounds. Disheartened, Mika embraced his disability with a morbid sort of acceptance, knowing he'd never measure up to what he should. When he awoke with his beloved siblings one morning to find his mother gone, he made up his mind - he would never rely so much on anyone other than himself and the two caracals that had been there with him from day one.
