SCARY MONSTERS AND NICE SPRITES
NAME... Umlaut { OOM-laow }
AGE... 27 moons
GENDER... Female
CLAN... Loner
POSITION... N/A
SPECIES... Serval
APPEARANCE...Pale as a ghost and nearly as thin, this rather lightweight feline is rather noticeable against the grassy plains she resides in. Her fur is a soft white with pale silver-grey spots further along her spine and midriff, with only her mottled ears and nose to stand out among it. Her tail is short and ringed with a similar pale silver along it's length. Her body, delicate as it is, still holds true to that serval body-type with a long body that shifts from skinny to stocky with little regard for how she wishes otherwise. Her movements are tad shaky due to her weak muscle mass and small size. And as a general rule flees instead of fighting.
PERSONALITY...Umlaut is a bit of a mystery, and seems to enjoy being that way. She's a typically amenable creature whose not adverse to lend a helping paw to an ailing stranger. While she appears to be kind-hearted individual with an unusually apathetic view towards clans, but there's a keenness to her words that suggest otherwise. And while willing to listen to anyone else's trouble, she's incredibly tight lipped with any information pertaining to herself. And as such, a mystery.
Being a knowledgeable creature with a keen mind, she tends to keep to the morally grey as she looks out for number one, her friendliness often hiding a darker edge. She's often seen 'haunting' the edges of patrols, supposedly looking for information to trade with willing listeners. Her ultimate goal in this can be anyone's guess. And while her relationships with clan cats is tense, she remains genuinely friendly to fellow loners.
HISTORY...
0-10 moons:: Lived a pretty typical kitten-hood near the mountains, and was cared for by her mother, Tilda. She never knew her father, but eventually learned that was typical of loners and rouges. Umlaut did however have the company of her sister, Ellipsis, in which they were inseparable. After around 9 moons, their small band began to move away from the mountains in fear of the winter snows.
10-15 moons:: A few months after they stared moving away, Tilda became very ill. The two sisters, in their distress, began scouring the surrounding hillsides for anything to help their ailing mother. Their limited knowledge in herbs helped some and their efforts managed to get her back on her paws but to little avail. Tilda finally collapsed after a difficult climb and never rose again. The two sisters sought out shelter nearby and mourned her loss.
15-20 moons:: After spending some time ill-lodged in an old den, the sisters agreed to set out again. Just as they finally escaped the mountainsides, Ellipsis fell ill under similar symptoms as their mother. But as her sister became more delusional instead of just weak, Umlaut became more terrified. It finally came to a point were Umlaut tried to seek out any help she could, including nearby clan cats. But none seemed willing to help a ghostly serval and her dying sister. When Umlaut returned from her fruitless trek, her sister had disappeared; possibly carried off or chasing delusions, and more than likely to be dead. She has long since been embittered by this and has disregarded clan cats as useless.
20-27:: After clearing out a small outcropping on the edge of the plains, Umlaut had come to accept the fact that she would probably be a hermit without family and friends. But it was in this lonely brooding thought that she heard the faint cries of a troubled soul. Hurrying out of her home, she came across a trapped fellow feline. Freeing him from the log that fell on him, she nursed him to health before learning he was a clans member. At first, Umlaut harbored sudden dark thoughts to kill this creature, but as he continued to speak learned that she could use this information for another purpose. So as he loosened his tongue, she memorized every detail. Ever since then, she's been the friendly loner under the rock, dropping tidbits of information as she sees fit.
Even more recently, she has been suffering under symptoms of the illness that plagued the rest of her family. Occasionally, she becomes so weak she can't walk and have brief moments of delusion. But other than that, she has continued with her information dealing.
