name...Tearstar
age...120 moons
gender...Male
clan...CheetahClan
position...Leader {with staff permission}
species...Cheetah
appearance...Tearstar has a medium-golden colored pelt, neither pale nor dark. He has a particularly long tail, streaming out behind him when he runs. The leader of CheetahClan is fairly small for his kind, even more slender than the ordinary cheetah. Tearstar's short fur is covered with a profusion of spots, seemingly in no real order. He is rather muscular for such a slender specimen, and this helps him run, as does long, powerful legs. By far the most prominent feature on this cheetah, though, are his eyes. Tearstar has large warm amber eyes, round and soppy. Added to the black lines running down from the corners as on all cheetahs, this makes Tearstar look like he's crying. In fact, this is how he got his warrior name, Tearstripe, and is particularly fitting considering his past.
personality...quiet:
Tearstar is an introvert, he dislikes crowds. Other than for ceremonies and important meetings, and the gatherings of course, he prefers not to have large groups of cats clustered about him. When he isn't leading his Clan, Tearstar can be found hunting, patrolling, training apprentices- anything that gets him moving and out of camp.
energetic:
Tearstar has lots of energy, he loves to be moving about. In fact, the one thing he hates more than anything else is to have to sit in one place for a very long time. Tearstar loves to run, and goes on long runs when he's feeling stressed; he's found that it calms his nerves.
kind:
Tearstar is often too nice for his own good. He isn't very good at punishing rule-breakers, and is notorious for letting cats off with a few moons of cleaning the elder's den where another leader would have exiled them for a few days. Tearstar is pretty much just a big softy, and the best way to get him to agree is to appeal to his nice side.
loyal:
Tearstar is incredibly loyal, to the warrior code, his Clan, and StarClan. He believes that everyone should follow it to the letter, which can sometimes cause conflicts. However, Tearstar only wants what's best for CheetahClan; he makes tough choices and sticks with them. Despite a few incidents as an apprentice, he'd never break the warrior code and is a law-abiding cat.
history...Tearstar was born Tearkit, to two loving, supportive CheetahClan parents. He and his brother, Whisperkit, were very happy, and their cubhood passed normally, playing and arguing about who would be leader and who would be deputy. When they were six moons old, Tearkit and Whisperkit became Tearpaw and Whisperpaw, and the two cats started training. Immediately, Tearpaw began feeling jealous. His brother was smarter, faster, stronger than him. He was popular and the elders loved him. Even their parents doted on Whisperpaw, although they tried to be fair and never neglected Tearpaw. However, he loved his brother too much to be mad, so Tearpaw continued his training, working as hard as he could. Although he wasn't as good as his littermate, he soon gained a reputation as a quiet, thoughtful cheetah who'd work hard at any task he was given. Then when Tearpaw had been an apprentice for a few moons, tragedy struck.
Tearpaw fell in love. But not with any CheetahClan apprentice. His crush, Ripplepaw, was a cloudy leopard, and as soon as they met casually at the Gathering he knew it was love. Unfortunately, she appeared to have no feelings for him, and even though they were friends at the Gatherings, eventually the day came when CheetahClan and LeopardClan were facing each other on the field of battle. To his dismay, young Tearpaw found himself fighting Ripplepaw with Whisperpaw at his side. Tearpaw tried to go easy on his crush, but two against one are hardly fair odds, and it soon looked like Ripplepaw's life was in jeopardy.
Now, who turned up? Only one of Ripplepaw's Clanmates, Speckledpaw. Now it was an even fight, and the two LeopardClanners held their own against the brothers. Finally the battle was over, ending in LeopardClan's retreat. Back at camp, the two apprentices were given their warrior names for their bravery in battle- Whispergrass and Tearstripe. Tearstripe's new name was to become a self-fulfilling prophecy.
At the next Gathering, every cat was gossiping about it: after Speckledpaw's brave defense of Ripplepaw, the two young cats-now Ripplesplash and Freckledpelt- were said to be in love. Tearstripe watched in disbelief and horror as at each Gathering, his love showed more and more affection towards the leopard. Finally, one gathering Tearstripe found to his dismay that Ripplesplash was expecting cubs. Freckledpelt's cubs.
Tearstripe went into a depression. He didn't sleep, he didn't eat; the normally active warrior was tired and lethargic. Whispergrass grew more and more anxious, always bothering his brother. What was wrong? Why wouldn't he eat? Or go on patrol? Finally, Tearstripe cracked and told his brother the whole story.
To say that Whispergrass was furious would have been the understatement of a lifetime. Believing that it Tearstripe's sorrow was entirely Ripplesplash's fault, the young warrior began setting a trap for the leopard he blamed for stealing his brother's heart.
One day, as Freckledpelt was taking a walk along the border, Whispergrass captured him. Ripplesplash, frantic, left to look for her f=mate, worried. There she found Whispergrass's scheme come true. In front of the clouded leopard's eyes, the CheetahClan warrior killed her mate. Then he tore her heart out of her chest, to show her how his brother felt, before killing her as well. Crazed, Whispergrass ran to Tearstripe with the whole story, expecting his brother to be greatful. Instead, the young tom was horrified. He cried over Ripplesplash's body, then turned on his brother, cursing him. Confused, Whispergrass left the territory, never to be seen again. Tearstripe buried the two corpses, then told both clans that the three had been killed by wild dogs. Although it was the subject of rumors for a time, eventually hings settled down, and Tearstripe became deputy, then leader. His heart, though, broken all those moons ago, has never mended.
