THE sound of the wind rushing as Willowleaf ran gave the ivory-pelted lioness something to focus on other than the steady fall of her paws and glorious burn in her muscles as she moved. Around her the golden tall grasses of the savanna waved in the wind, parting before her and opening up a narrow path that it felt like only she could see. A stunningly blue sky opened up above the lioness, making the world look like it was half gold and half beautiful blue. It felt like the plains would go on forever and the sky was closer than it had ever been. Seeing it look so close, Willowleaf wished she could sprout wings and fly. She wished her feet were touching air instead of thudding on the sun-baked earth. Maybe if she could fly, life wouldn't seem so close and impossible. Now, even as she charged forward across the plains, it didn't feel like Willowleaf was actually moving forward. It felt sickeningly like she was running in place, like the scenery would never change, like this would be as good as it ever got.
JUST thinking about it made the lioness run faster. Her muscles burned as she leaped and bounded across LionClan's vast, open territory. Baby blue eyes swept through the tall grasses while she ran a white streak through golden grasses. She didn't know what she was running from, where she was running too or even what she would do when she figured these things out. That seemed to be all Willowleaf was good at these days. She'd run around the territory more times than she could count in the last few weeks, patrolling borders, hunting, just wandering without aim.
SPYING a border up ahead, Willowleaf made herself slow down and stop. She was several yards from the actual border but she stared at what was beyond. It was an open border, kind of like the one on TigerClan where she was allowed to meet Dragonstar. Well, allowed by him. Nobody else knew and nobody else needed to know. Blackstar would probably skin her alive. This wasn't that border though. If Dragonstar had met her here, it probably would have been, but there wasn't nearly enough cover for such secret meetings. Reclining on her haunches, Willowleaf stared across the border into open loner land. It didn't look any different than the territory she sat in, except everyone said territory was safe. The only problem with that was that Willowleaf hd ventured into loner territory in order to circle around to TigerClan territory. Never once had she been harmed. That path between LionClan and TigerClan lands...oddly enough, it almost felt safer than where she sat right now.
WAS that wrong?
TIPPING her head back, the white-furred lioness regarded the endless blue sky over her head. It looked so close that if she jumped up, she just might touch it. The sky never looked so closed off when she was around Dragonstar. It looked high up and open and free then. Willowleaf wondered if her mother Sunstreak, father Falconeye and all her siblings thought she was a freak or frowned on her while they sat in their place with StarClan. What did they think of her thoughts and choices? Was she wrong to feel comfortable with a tiger and trapped in her own skin with lions?

Blackstar was wandering around the territory on a solo hunt. He had so far killed an eagle and a large dog. He didn't feel satisfied. He could take down a lot larger prey, but where was it all? He snorted as he looked around. His heart quickened with joy as he saw ahead a small hippo by the river. Easy to kill and unprotected by it's mother. He crept up to it. Something spooked the calf because it bolted for the river. Blackstar exploded into action, his muscles rippling beneath the fur and flesh on his legs as he gave a mighty leap, cutting off the escape route to the river. Panicing, the calf bellowed and turned, but Blackstar was faster. He jumped onto the hippo baby's back and clawed around until he got to its neck and save several swift blows to the head and neck. It finally fell to the ground, exhausted, and died slowly. Blackstar finally came to a thought. How was he going to haul this thing to camp? He growled, but was distracted from his thoughts by a flash of white. Curious, he strained his eyes toward the running figure and saw it was Willowleaf. She seemed to be running quite fast. His curiosity turned to alarm as he wondered if anyone was chasing her. But he saw nobody in pursuit. Maybe she was chasing prey? He shrugged it off for now and circled his hippo, bolting back to camp and reporting where it's location was for some warriors to haul it to camp. His curiosity still burned as he decided to track down Willowleaf and see what she was up too. He followed her scent trail and silently padded up behind her. Willowleaf? What are you doing way out here? He asked softly, kindly. Curiously. He thought of what else to say. I saw you running earlier and thought you were being chased, I came to see if you alright. As a leader, Blackstar had to know the whereabouts of his warriors, but, she also seemed determined when he saw her, and that interested him. Where was she determined to go? But it also looked like you looking for someone... He noted gently, his tone half-focused as he thought about who she could be looking for. Almost everyone was at camp.
OOC: Sorry, I need to get Blackstar more active because he is a leader. I hope you don't mind.

WILLOWLEAF would never admit it to a soul but when Blackstar spoke, the white lioness nearly jumped out of her fur. Her thoughts came rocketing down from their perch high above and brought her back to earth with an unpleasant jerk. Blinking baby blues, the pale-furred she-cat turned her head to regard her clan leader. Blackstar, a formidable looking lion was a cat she'd never approached. Made fun of most of her apprenticeship, Willowleaf knew little about the cats she now worked alongside with as a warrior and even the tom she served under. Thankfully it didn't seem Blackstar was intentionally tracking her, well, not really. He apparently had thought she was being chased, which made her laugh. It wasn't a mean laugh, just a laugh at herself for her silly behavior. She couldn't blame him for thinking it though, not many lionesses enjoyed running just for the joy of it. There were times when Willowleaf thinks her mother should have named her Runningkit insteadof Willowkit, but oh well. It didn't make much of a difference.
"I'M alright," Willowleaf told him kindly, a soft smile on her maw. "I was looking for Mac, I'd thought I'd caught his scent a while ago but it was probably my imagination." A weak lie, Willowleaf was one of the finest trackers in LionClan, it made up for her abysmal hunting skill. Blackstar might not know that. Also, she was friends with Mac, well, sort of. It wouldn't be impossible for her to be looking for him to join her on a hunt or something. Regardless of what Blackstar knew about her, Willowleaf knew he'd never guess who she was really looking for, but she wasn't about to give any hints.
NOBODY understood what it meant to be friends with someone in another clan. They had no idea what it was like to feel out of place amongst their own kind either. Willowleaf understood it well and apparently so did Dragonstar. It was nice to have that comfort and terribly lonely to be without it. Willowleaf didn't know if her thoughts would ever be of a romantic nature but at the very least, Dragonstar understood her. Leaders like Blackstar that were comfortable in their own skin and knew their clanmates by name even if they never spoke to them, well, those were the sort Willowleaf avoided. Beside the point, Blackstar could very well have been one of Willowleaf's tormentors during her apprenticeship, all because of a white pelt. She wouldn't hold that against him now so much as she would avoid thinking about it. Right now he seemed to just want reassurance that she was alright and a reasonable explaination for why she'd been looking around in such a manner. Normal leader duties, right?
"I'M sorry if I worried you earlier, but I'm alright and I should probably get to doing something useful instead of just sitting around," Willowleaf went on, flashing a charming smile as she stood up. Sweeping her tail from left to right, the she-cat bobbed her head politely to the large tom and began to move toward the direction she'd come from, toward the interior of the territory, trying to leave her prior thoughts at the border.
